Our client was one of the forerunners in a very rapidly growing category, which is egrocery (online grocery shopping). The client had been using numerous data sources in the process of making strategic and tactical business and marketing decisions. These included sales data from the client’s systems, as well as a series of various reports on the effectiveness of all marketing activities, provided by agencies cooperating with the client.


From the managerial point of view, it was crucial to have quick access to complete, crosssectional and reliable data.

Challenge

The management challenge was the inability to react quickly enough, in a category with dynamic competition, where we are subjected to constant time pressure, manage a high turnover of promotions and have to react almost in real time.


The reason for this was the need to laboriously combine and verify data from multiple sources and systems. Only after this process was done was it possible to conduct analyses and make decisions.


For the client, this often meant a loss of competitive advantage and was reflected in business results.

Solution

After analyzing the situation, we proposed the implementation of our Business Intelligence solution. At the very beginning of the process, it allowed us to gather all key data in one place. We then  created a mechanism for combining and organizing data (Data Lake), the aim of which was to find a common denominator for the different data and variables.


The final step was a workshop where we worked out an information and data management structure together with the client. Its purpose was to provide each person using the Business Intelligence solution with the information that was key to their role, goals, tasks and decisions made.

Effect

The result was the creation of a series of managerial dashboards gathering key information about the client’s business in one place.


From anywhere in the world, both highlevel reports on the brand health and detailed reports on order processing were available within seconds.


The introduction of the solution made it possible to make quick decisions and react to the changing market situation. Without the need to conduct a tedious process of analyzing and combining data, it was possible to access information such as: sales levels, margins, complaints, service quality ratings or driver management.
